How to Contact Your Elected Officials

You can first try the links under the Express tab for the U.S. Congress and the State Legislatures.

If you are not sure who your legislators are, then you can go to this link http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/officials/ and find out.  The main search will reveal your US Senators, Congressman, Governor,  State Senator, State Delegate etc.  There are zip code and locality options.

To search down to local levels you must click the red Local Officials link or go here directly: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/officials/?command=local

When wrting to your officials, remember a mailed letter commands the most attention.  You may also fax your letter with near same results.  Emails are least reliable and sometimes are the last communications to be answered.

Remember to be polite even if you are contacting them about something you disagree on.  You will have a much better chance of persuading them to consider your position and improve your chances of a compromise or full support.

If you are desiring a reply, be sure to include not only your address, but also your fax number, email address and phone number.  The easier you make it for your elected official to reply, the more likely you are to receive a timely response.
